On September 27, Air India will resume direct flights between Mumbai and Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in the aviation industry.
According to Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Rahul Chhabra, the flights are expected to boost trade and connectivity between the two countries.
"I am excited to announce that Air India is launching direct flights between Mumbai and Nairobi on September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day," Mr Chhabra said.
With the resumption of direct flights, travel time between the two cities will be reduced from 10-11 hours to just six hours, saving passengers from long layovers in Dubai.
Trade between India and Kenya is estimated at $2 billion annually, with key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, health, and pharmaceuticals expected to benefit from the direct flights.
India is a popular destination for medical travel, with low travel fares and affordable treatment options, and a huge number of Kenyans travel to India for medical reasons each year.
The Indian government also offers 400 fully-funded scholarships to Kenyan students to study in various institutions of higher learning.
