Egyptian football club Zamalek has won its first match since the death of 20 supporters in a stadium incident last month. The team defeated Rwanda's Rayon Sports 3-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The match was played behind closed doors in the Red Sea resort city of El-Gouna, hundreds of kilometers from Cairo, where the tragic incident occurred. Zamalek players wore shirts with 'Remember 20' printed on them to honor the deceased fans.
The deaths happened when police fired tear gas and birdshot to disperse fans trying to force their way into a stadium in Cairo. This incident led to the suspension of the national league, although CAF fixtures have continued in empty stadiums.

Zamalek's new Portuguese coach, Jesualdo Ferreira, witnessed his team build a 3-0 lead at halftime, thanks to a brace from Ahmed Eid and an own goal by Emmanuel Imanishimwe. Rayon Sports managed to pull one goal back through Isaac Muganza.
In other CAF Confederation Cup matches, Gabon's Mounana beat Zambia's Power Dynamos 4-0, with Georges Ambourouet scoring his fifth goal of the season. Tanzania's Young Africans thrashed Zimbabwe's Platinum 5-1, while V Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo won 3-0 against Mozambique's Ferroviario Beira.
Other results included Malian team Djoliba and Ghana's Hearts of Oak taking 2-1 leads over Egyptian team Petrojet and Senegal's Olympique Ngor, respectively. Ivorian team ASEC Mimosas drew 1-1 with Libya's Al-Ittihad.
