A report by The Star indicates that the terrorists behind the Garissa attack were housed for days at a hotel in Garissa owned by a top politician. Additionally, Yassin Juman, a respected ex-NTV journalist, has stated that one of the attackers was the son of a prominent chief in Mandera county.

Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi had previously suggested that local leaders were involved in the Garissa killings. These recent revelations appear to support his claims.

However, it remains unclear whether local leaders in the Jubilee administration or within the security agencies, such as the Police, KDF, or NIS, played a role in delaying the deployment of the GSU RECCE squad, which could have potentially reduced casualties by 90% if dispatched by 8am.
