On July 21, 2019, Arsenal manager Unai Emery expressed his willingness to be patient in the transfer market, opting to wait for the right player to become available.

Speaking after a 3-0 victory over Fiorentina in Charlotte, Emery emphasized the importance of choosing the best solution, stating, "Really I am with patience because we want to choose the best solution."

Emery's approach is driven by a desire to avoid settling for second-best players, as he explained, "We don’t want now to go to the second line of players."

Despite being linked with William Saliba, Emery revealed that there are multiple possibilities being explored, with the club's sporting director Edu and head of football Raul Sanllehi working closely with him to identify the right targets.

Emery stated, "There are a lot of names. The club is working, Edu is very close to me and Raul. We speak every day."
