An Uber driver, identifying himself as Daniel, shared a harrowing experience with a passenger, known as Charles, on February 7, 2017, in Nairobi.
Daniel had just dropped off a client at 'The Hood' in Hurlingham when he received a request from Charles, who was at the Department of Defence Headquarters and wanted to be picked up.
The Unsettling Conversation ¶
During their journey, Charles engaged Daniel in a series of intense conversations, discussing topics ranging from the concept of discovery to the monotony of daily life. Daniel began to feel uneasy due to Charles's unpredictable behavior and lack of a clear destination.
As they drove, Charles suddenly stopped the car on Thika Road to relieve himself, leaving Daniel shocked and concerned for his safety.
A Descent into Fear ¶
The situation escalated when Charles threatened Daniel, claiming he had a gun and would shoot him if he did not comply with his demands. Daniel, fearing for his life, acquiesced to Charles's requests, including driving to Donholm via Kangundo Road.
Throughout the ordeal, Charles continued to interrogate Daniel about his personal life, including his marriage and relationships. Daniel, attempting to appease Charles, responded to the questions while trying to find a way to escape the situation.
A Threatening Ultimatum ¶
Charles warned Daniel that if he failed to answer his questions truthfully or showed any sign of disobedience, he would be killed. The driver was forced to continue driving, all the while searching for an opportunity to escape or seek help.
