Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu PF party plans to spend $1 million on President Robert Mugabe's 91st birthday celebration, scheduled for later this month.
President Mugabe, who has been in power since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, will turn 91 on February 21. According to Zanu PF officials, they have secured 60 percent of the funds required for the event, which will take place in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
The significant expenditure on the birthday bash comes at a time when the country is facing challenges in paying workers' wages.
In the previous year, Zanu PF reportedly spent $1 million on President Mugabe's 90th birthday celebration.
