On July 21, 2019, Ugandan businesswoman and socialite Zarinah Hassan, popularly known as Zari, opened up about her decision to reject a marriage proposal from Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz.

According to Zari, the turning point came after reports emerged of Diamond's infidelity with Hamisa Mobetto, resulting in a child. Zari flew to Mombasa to meet Diamond and discuss the issue, but upon her return to South Africa, she decided to end their relationship.

Months later, Diamond asked Zari to marry him, claiming it would stop people from talking about them. However, Zari refused, stating that her trust had been broken and that marrying him would not change his behavior. She also claimed to have evidence of their conversations, which she would share with the public if Diamond denied her allegations.

“Mama Tee, let's get married. You know when we get married, we are going to shut them up. Nikamwambia Naseeb, it's not an issue of you getting married to me, the issue is you. Even if you married me today and you are still not changing your behavior, it's not going to change anything… I'm not desperate… zilikuwa kwenye chat, sio call so that if today you ask me for evidence itakosa, it's on WhatsApp and if he says it's not true I will screenshot for you those WhatsApp messages,” she said.

Additionally, Zari explained why she blocked Diamond and their children's Instagram accounts. She revealed that an incident occurred when her son Nillan accidentally sent messages to Diamond while playing with her phone. Diamond responded, telling Zari that she had not forgotten about him, which led Zari to block him to avoid similar incidents in the future.
