According to close associates of President Uhuru Kenyatta, there are concerns that the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) may not be able to deliver the expected votes in 2017. These concerns have been exacerbated by intelligence reports suggesting that some Kalenjin supporters are hesitant to join JAP from the United Republican Party (URP), despite Deputy President William Ruto's assertion that URP has already been dissolved.
Following his return from Japan, President Kenyatta reportedly convened an urgent meeting to discuss the recent election loss in Kajiado Central, where JAP candidate Patrick Tutui was defeated. Prior to his trip to Japan, the President had actively campaigned for Tutui in the area.
