A new appointment is expected as President Uhuru Kenyatta prepares to name Kingori Mwangi as the new Inspector General of Police, according to a source at State House. Kingori previously served as Deputy Inspector General in charge of Police Reforms under former Inspector General Kimaiyo.
Kimaiyo resigned amid concerns over the police's ability to address rising terror attacks. Questions have been raised about Kingori's potential for success given his previous role as Kimaiyo's deputy.
In addition to the police appointment, the president is also expected to appoint Joseph ole Lenku as the new Cabinet Secretary for Tourism. The tourism ministry will be separated from the current Ministry of East Africa, Commerce and Tourism, which is headed by Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie.
