On July 20, 2019, a tip-off from members of the public led to a midnight raid by Flying Squad detectives and officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on an illegal liquor manufacturing plant in Dandora, Nairobi.

The plant, disguised as a warehouse, was raided in conjunction with the authorities, resulting in the arrest of four suspects: Samuel Kihara, Peter Mwangi, Margaret Waithera, and Moses Itunga.

During the operation, 177 cartons packed with illicit spirit brands and several 20-litre drums of suspected ethanol were recovered. Additionally, a loaded private van, fake KRA and KEBS stickers, unknown chemicals, packaging bottles, and seals were seized.

According to a tweet by DCI KENYA, over 177 cartons packed with illicit spirit brands and several 250L drums of suspected ethanol were recovered during the raid.
