Kenya's Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch Takes Office as ICC Vice President

The International Criminal Court has elected Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch to the Vice Presidency of the court. She will deputize the court’s president, Argentinian Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi. Judge Kuniko Ozaki was also elected to the position of second vice presidency.

According to the statement, President Uhuru Kenyatta and the government of Kenya have not publicly commented on the election of Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch.

The election comes at a time when the court has indicted top leaders of the Kenyan government. The development is seen as significant, given the views of the majority of citizens towards the ICC.
