Jua Cali, a prominent figure in Kenya's entertainment industry, has been appointed as the ambassador for the Lari Marathon.
With a career spanning over a decade, Jua Cali has built a large following and his influence is sought after by those looking to reach the youth.
The organizers of the Lari Marathon, which is set to take place on Saturday, March 28th, 2015, have tapped into his influence by making him the event's ambassador.
Objective of the Marathon ¶
The main objective of the marathon is to raise funds for the rehabilitation of Kereita Forest, a 10,000-hectare forest in Kenya. The forest has significant potential to boost the economy of Lari and Kiambu County, with its rich biodiversity and natural resources.
The event is being organized by Capacity Africa and Rural Resources Africa, a community-based organization involved in conservation efforts within Kereita and Aberdare Forests.
Conservation Efforts ¶
The proceeds from the marathon will go towards reforestation and prevention of logging, which has resulted in the loss of over 20 percent of the indigenous forest cover.
The Lari Marathon is unique in that it takes place entirely within the forest, making it the only such event in Africa.
Event Details ¶
The marathon will feature various categories, including a half marathon (21km), Forest Charge Run (12km), fun race (10km), children's race (5km), and corporate race (10km). The registration fee is Sh1000 for individuals and Sh500 for children, with a total prize money of Sh1 million.
A camping and after-race party, dubbed 'Dance with the Trees,' will be hosted by Backstage Productions crew, featuring performances by popular artists, including Jua Cali, Size 8, and Shiru wa GP.
