On September 4, 2017, Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka was forced to make a premature exit from a rally in Makueni after unruly youths stormed the event.
The youths, who carried banners supporting the Maendeleo Chap Chap campaign led by Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, openly attacked attendees with whips and catapults.
They also dismantled tents and took away plastic seats. The chaos led to the departure of other leaders, including Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
According to the youths, they opposed Mr Musyoka and Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama. When given an audience by Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, they expressed their opposition.
Following the incident, Mr Musyoka left the venue and proceeded to a meeting at Emali town.
