Published on July 21, 2019, a post by Bonfire Adventures co-founder Sarah Kabu has ignited a heated discussion on the costs of weddings in Kenya.
According to Sarah, couples should not shy away from asking for financial assistance from relatives and friends to make their dream weddings a reality.
Her comments come after billionaire Manu Chandaria's low-key wedding ceremony at the Attorney General's office, which cost a mere Sh 3,900.
However, not everyone agrees with Sarah's sentiments. Many of her fans took to social media to express their disagreement, with some arguing that couples should prioritize saving for their future together rather than splurging on expensive weddings.
"Me for today I don't agree with you, for youngs.. wedding is a one day function & marriage is a forever thing, if a person cant afford the big weddings we got the AG, chief.. Never spend what you cant afford especially in wed A BIG LIFE MISTAKE, do a simple wed & live without stress, si kufanya wed watu waje wale & leave you with life loans," commented mwauraeliud.
Others defended Manu Chandaria's decision to keep his wedding ceremony low-key, citing the couple's long-standing relationship and the fact that they had spent decades together.
