On March 5, 2019, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria sparked controversy after declaring the ruling Jubilee Party dead in a tweet.
He insinuated that the demise of Jubilee was thanks to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
"It is now clear that there is no longer a political party known as Jubilee. Respect Baba," Kuria tweeted.
Pressed by Jubilee blogger Polycarp Hinga, Kuria said he would decamp at an appropriate time, stating, "I will do so at a time of my choosing," on March 6, 2019.
However, Kuria has made public his intentions to join the Democratic Party (DP), which was founded by retired President Mwai Kibaki in 1990.
Early this year, he posted a picture of the DP's flag and lamp symbol on his social media platforms, stating, "To all my detractors out there, let us meet at the grassroots. DP is the party of the region."
