On July 21, 2019, a mass vaccination of livestock was underway in Kisumu County following the death of a resident due to anthrax.
County Executive Gilchrist Okuom ordered the vaccination in the affected area and its surroundings to prevent further spread of the disease.
According to Public Health officials, the disease had been contained in Kisumu East, where one person was confirmed dead.
County Public Health Officer Elly Nyambok stated that seven people were undergoing treatment.
Disinfection efforts were also underway in the affected areas around Ragumo village in Kisumu East.
Over 40 people from Nyalunya village had undergone a check-up following the outbreak.
