On Saturday, July 20, 2019, thousands of mourners gathered at the rural home of the late Joe Kadenge in Vihiga county to bid farewell to the soccer legend.

Among the dignitaries who attended the burial ceremony were Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangu'la.

Speaking at the ceremony, Raila Odinga reaffirmed his call to have City stadium renamed after the soccer legend in recognition of the contribution Kadenge made in nurturing and promoting talent in the country during his lifetime.

Kenya's top football administrators, current and former players, coaches, and other stakeholders also converged in Vihiga to pay their last tribute to the footballer.

Former Kenya Football Federations chairman Sam Nyamweya and ex Harambee Stars coach Jacob Ghost Mulee led the soccer enthusiasts in praising Kadenge as a disciplined player who will forever be remembered and emulated.
