On January 16, 2019, a devastating attack occurred at the Dusit complex in Nairobi, Kenya. The attack resulted in the loss of at least 15 lives, including 13 Kenyans, one American, and a Briton.
Chiromo Mortuary received at least 15 bodies from the complex, with staff on standby to receive more. The victims included an American, a Briton, and eleven Kenyans, with two still unidentified.
Police reported that they had rescued at least 170 people, with many still trapped inside the complex. The terrorists were said to be holed up at the complex gym, with reports of gunshots coming from the building.
Many of the victims were dining in the Secret Garden restaurant when the attack occurred. Photos by Reuters showed victims slumped at their tables, while at least five bodies lay at the reception area.
Victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, including MP Shah, Avenue the Aga Khan, Nairobi, and Kenyatta National Hospital. The community came together to offer condolences, with many expressing their shock and sadness at the loss of life.
