Published on July 20, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto conspicuously missed the wedding of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's daughter Dr. Monica Njeri in Runda.
The absence of the two top government officials comes at a time when Waititu has distanced himself from Ruto's functions since the infamous Kasarani event where Uhuru reprimanded Central leaders close to Ruto.
Dr. Njeri, a University of Nairobi graduate and a senior doctor, solemnized her union with Dr. Herman Nyotu Gitau at PCEA Evergreen Church. She is a doctor at the Gatundu Level 5 Hospital under the payroll of Kiambu County government.
There were whispers that officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) considered storming the event to arrest Waititu and his daughter, who is under scrutiny for suspected corruption money controlled by her father.
Guests later proceeded to Windsor Golf and Country Club for their reception, which was initially threatened by a closure order from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) due to claims of untreated effluent discharge. However, the order was later reversed after frantic consultations.
