On September 15, 2018, a disturbing incident occurred at Kipsaina trading centre in Cherangany Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County. A Catholic priest, Fr Benard Magina Masinde, was charged with attempting to defile an 11-year-old girl who is also a church dancer.
According to the minor's mother, she sent her daughter to Kipsaina to buy kerosene but she took long to return home. The mother decided to go look for her at the trading centre and found her inside a vehicle with the priest, who was half naked.
The mother immediately raised an alarm, and the public apprehended the priest, taking him to the nearest police station. Fr Masinde pleaded not guilty and was released on a surety bond of Sh300,000.
