Published on July 20, 2019, the Nairobi county department of public health is set to dispose of 23 unclaimed bodies that have been lying at the City Mortuary since November 2018.
According to a seven-day notice issued by acting County Secretary and head of public service Mr Leboo Ole Morintat, the bodies will be disposed of if they are not claimed within the given timeframe.
The majority of the bodies were brought in by the police from various parts of the city, with the cause of death being either murder or accident.
Under the Public Health Act Cap 242, the Nairobi county has the authority to dispose of unclaimed bodies, which are usually buried in a common mass grave or donated to institutions of learning.
