Former football star Joe Kadenge's burial is set to be a grand affair, with several high-profile mourners expected to attend. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on a date not specified in the article, at Gisambai Primary School, followed by the burial at his home in Soliani, Vihiga.
According to Chris Kadenge, the deceased's nephew, Deputy President William Ruto will lead the government in the burial, with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi also expected to attend.
Other notable mourners include Central Organization Trade Union (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi, and host governor Wilbur Otichillo.
Former AFC Leopards legends Maurice Sunguti, Omar Shaban, and Nicholas Muyoti will also be in attendance, as will veteran sports journalist and broadcaster Jack Oyoo Silvester, who will be the MC at the event.
As a renowned football commentator, Oyoo is well-suited to lead the ceremony, given his rich experience in the field. He, along with Leonard Mambo Mbotela, coined the 'Kadenge na Mpira' fame, a style of play that originated from holding onto the ball.
Joe Kadenge, a former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars player, passed away on July 7 at a Nairobi hospital. The Confederations of African Football (CAF) observed a minute of silence in an Africa Nations Cup match between Algeria and Guinea during the knock out stage in Egypt on the same day.
