Published on July 20, 2019, Sudan's opposition is seeking a postponement in the signing of the second part of a power-sharing agreement with the country's military, citing the need for more time to resolve differences among its members.
The first part of the deal was signed earlier this week, marking a significant step forward in the country's transition process following the ousting of longtime autocrat Omar Al-Bashir in April.
However, discord within the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, a coalition of opposition political groups representing the protesters, has hindered progress in the negotiations.
The opposition is expected to meet with the military to negotiate and sign the so-called constitutional declaration, which defines how much power each side will have in the transitional period until elections are held.
