This archive report was first published on 20 July 2019.

On July 20, 2019, a Twitter user named @brownandbella sparked a viral conversation by asking women to share the 'dumbest' things men had ever said to them about sex, reproductive health, and menstruation.

Over 20,000 people engaged with the post, sharing their own experiences and the astonishing comments they had received from men.

One woman recounted a conversation with a man in his 30s who asked her why blood came out during menstruation, demonstrating a fundamental lack of understanding about the reproductive system.

Another woman shared a story about a man who suggested that she had not had sex because she was 'emotionally' unable to, despite her clear explanation that she had not had sex.

A third woman shared a disturbing account of a man who believed his 13-year-old daughter was having sex because of her physical development during puberty.

These comments, and many others like them, highlight the need for education and awareness about women's reproductive health and the importance of respecting women's experiences and bodies.
