Counterfeit Cash Bust in Nairobi: Three Kenyans Arrested with $10 Million Fake US Dollars

On July 18, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya arrested three individuals in Nairobi's Fedha estate after a tip-off from the public.

The suspects, identified as Joshua Odhiambo, 19, Jane Ogenda, 20, and 27-year-old Dickson Ombaso, were found with counterfeit United States currency totaling to $10 million (approximately Ksh.1 billion).

During the raid, detectives recovered a fake car number plate, an iPad labeled GOK (Government of Kenya), and chemicals allegedly used in processing fake money.

According to the DCI, some chemicals believed to be used in processing the counterfeit currency were also recovered in the suspects' house.

The suspects will be arraigned and charged in court on July 19, 2019.
