A study by Geopoll and Ipsos Kenya revealed that Kenyans aged 18-29 spend Sh1,550 on average on betting per month.
Conducted between July 12-14, the survey found that 73% of surveyed Kenyans who were aware of the government's suspension on betting are still engaged in the activity.
The profile of these Kenyan bettors was largely male, aged 25-34 years, and the mobile-based sports betting industry has recorded phenomenal growth in recent years.
The survey, part of a series on Kenyan millennials, was done throughout the country and targeted respondents who are aware of the government's suspension on betting firms.
Interestingly, the study found that bettors with a monthly household income of over Sh77,000 are more likely to use the money they would use to bet on other items after the government imposed tough laws on the sector.
