Embu County Assembly Passes Sh6.6 Billion Budget

On July 19, 2019, the Embu County Assembly passed a Sh6.6 billion budget, which includes a Sh4.45 billion equitable share of the revenue from the national government.

The budget also comprises a Sh301 million conditional grant to the Embu Level Five Hospital and another conditional grant for compensation for user fees forgone at Sh10.7 million.

Budget and Appropriations Committee chairman Harrison Mwaluko stated that the county has a local revenue target of Sh900 million.

Salaries and allowances accounted for 46.81 per cent of the total budget, with Sh3.1 billion allocated for this purpose.

Operations and maintenance received Sh1.23 billion, representing 18.71 per cent of the total county resources.

Development expenditure was allocated Sh2.3 billion, with the health sector receiving Sh2 billion.

The education sector received Sh106.7 million for bursaries for needy students in high schools, colleges, and universities.
