Former Presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has expressed concerns for his safety after his Lavington office was raided by armed thugs on Thursday night.

According to Aukot, six masked men, armed with guns, stormed his office at around 8pm, stealing a computer and a mobile phone belonging to the party's Secretary General, Fredrick Okango.

Aukot, who is also the leader of the 'Punguza Mzigo' initiative, which seeks to amend the constitution and reduce the burden on taxpayers, has sought an audience with Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai over the incident.

On Friday, Aukot told The Standard that he would be seeking an audience with the top cop to discuss the security measures that can be put in place to protect him.

Okango managed to escape the attackers and hid inside a toilet, where he was threatened with being shot if he did not come out.

However, Dagoretti DCI chief Francis Wanjau has stated that preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was a robbery incident and not a targeted attack on Aukot or his aides.

On Thursday night, Aukot tweeted that thugs had raided the party offices on Chalbi drive and shot at Okango, but later revealed that no shots were fired.
