On July 19, 2019, the government announced a second phase of Huduma Namba registration, offering citizens a chance to register for the biometric identification program.
Government spokesman Col. Rtd. Cyrus Oguna emphasized the importance of biometric registration, stating that it was a necessity for all Kenyans, particularly for special groups like the youth and elderly persons.
He noted that without Huduma Namba, accessing vital government services like cash transfers would be challenging. The spokesman specifically mentioned the Inua Jamii cash transfers and Ajira Programmes, which had been allocated over Sh26 billion in the 2019/2020 financial year.
During a press briefing in Marigat town, Baringo County, Oguna urged citizens to utilize the current opportunity to register for Huduma Namba, citing the free-of-charge registration of birth certificates and national IDs.
He also emphasized the need for constructive criticism, encouraging Kenyans and the media to provide feedback that would help improve the government's services.
Christine Loburi, a beneficiary of the Inua Jamii program, shared her success story, thanking the government for the program, which had enabled her to educate her nine grandchildren and provide for their needs.
