On Thursday night, detectives in Nairobi made a significant breakthrough in the fight against counterfeit currency, seizing fake USD 10 million in a raid on a house in Fedha Estate.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation was carried out following a tip-off, and three suspects were arrested in the process.
The suspects, identified as Joshua Odhiambo (19), Jane Ogenda (20), and Dickson Ombaso (27), were found in possession of a fake motor vehicle number plate and an iPad labeled GOK.
Additionally, detectives recovered some chemical believed to be used in processing the fake currency in the suspects' house.
"The suspects have been placed in custody awaiting arraignment in Court on Friday," the DCI tweeted.
This is not the first time detectives have made a significant seizure of counterfeit currency in Nairobi. In April, they recovered Sh1.2 billion in fake US dollars at the Barclays Bank Queensway branch, and in May, they nabbed four Rwandan nationals and two Kenyans, recovering millions of fake US Dollars, Zambian Kwachas, and more than 100 kilograms of fake gold nuggets in Kilimani.
Earlier in the year, in February, detectives recovered 75kgs of fake gold and Sh32 billion worth of fake notes.
