On July 19, 2019, a video clip surfaced online showing Nairobi askaris arresting a boda boda rider who had allegedly broken traffic rules.
The askaris were seen dragging the rider on the ground as he screamed and resisted arrest.
The Bodaboda Association of Kenya condemned the act and called on the county government to intervene.
However, Kenyans on Twitter praised the askaris, saying the riders had become notorious for breaking traffic rules.
Some Twitter users defended the askaris, saying the riders had become a menace in the city centre.
Others called for the riders to follow the laid down laws and bylaws of the county government.
One Twitter user shared a personal experience of being hit by a boda boda rider and said the riders were 'scum'.
Another user called for the boda boda association to condemn lawlessness perpetrated by their riders in equal measure.
Some users also suggested that force should be used against the riders until they learn some courtesy and manners.
