Published on July 19, 2019, a protest campaign against Arsenal's owners has gained momentum, with a petition demanding change surpassing 100,000 signatures in just three days.
Launched by 16 supporters' groups, including three from the United States, the '#WeCareDoYou' campaign aims to address 'poor leadership' from owner Stan Kroenke and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE).
Supporters are unhappy with the club's performance, facing a third successive season in the Europa League, and feel 'marginalized' by the owners. They also believe the atmosphere at Emirates Stadium to be 'soulless'.
Arsenal director Josh Kroenke responded with an open letter, 'respectfully disagreeing' with the fans' view of the club's situation. However, this response did little to quash the unrest, with signatories continuing to come from across the globe.
Michael Price, founder of YouAreMyArsenal blog, said the club's global fanbase has never been more united. '100,000 drives the ante up. It goes beyond open letters being exchanged,' he said. 'The engagement has to evolve.'
Price emphasized that the protests are not just about new player signings, but also about addressing European Super League concerns, improving the stadium atmosphere, and enhancing the club's commercial profile.
