Kenyan MP Charles Njagua, also known as Jaguar, has sparked controversy with his recent visit to Tanzania, a country he previously sparked a diplomatic row with over xenophobic remarks.
On July 6, 2019, Njagua was released from police custody after paying a $5,000 bail, following his arrest for allegedly inciting violence against Tanzanian and Ugandan traders.
His comments, which were widely shared on social media, called on Tanzanian and Ugandan traders to leave Kenya, sparking anger among some Tanzanian lawmakers who called for Kenyans to be kicked out of their country.
Tanzania's government also summoned Kenya's high commissioner to explain Njagua's comments, which he claimed were only targeting illegal traders.
"No country would allow people who do not have permits to do illegal business," Njagua told the BBC's Dira radio programme.
Despite the controversy, Njagua has maintained that he 'loves' Tanzania and has family in the country, even posting a picture of himself in Dodoma, the capital city.
