Jeff Koinange, a 52-year-old Citizen TV news anchor, has shared a surprising part of his childhood in a recent radio show. Speaking on the Hot 96 morning show with comedian Jalang'o, Koinange revealed that his first girlfriend was a Japanese girl named Yoko Seki, whom he met in 1972 when he was just six years old.
According to Koinange, Seki's father worked for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Yoko and her sister would often play with the Japanese Ambassador's children, who drove a big black Royce. Koinange recalled that Yoko and her sister would join their friends because they lived close by.
As Koinange recounted his childhood romance, he shared a sweet memory of Yoko writing him a letter with some chocolates, which he described as the sweetest thing he had ever seen. However, the two lovebirds eventually broke up when Koinange left school for another.
Years later, Koinange and Yoko reconnected through a WhatsApp group for former classmates and met up at a group meeting, where Koinange revealed to Yoko that she was his first girlfriend.
Today, Yoko Seki still lives in Kenya and remains single, while Koinange is married to Sheila and has a son with her.
