On December 14, 2018, Raila Odinga will be awarded an honorary degree by the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in recognition of his significant contributions to society.

The university cited Raila's efforts in promoting infrastructure development, settlement, sciences, and environmental conservation as key factors in their decision.

According to the university's vice chancellor, Stephen Agong', Raila's contributions align with the institution's values and have positively impacted the advancement of learning and service to humanity.

Agong' stated that Raila has met the requirements for the honorary degree due to his notable contributions to public service, leadership, and the expansion of democratic space in Kenya and the region.

As a result, the University Senate has determined that Raila Odinga is worthy of the conferment of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa).
