Isiolo Communities to Benefit from Shaba Challenge ¶
Published on July 19, 2019
Isiolo County has been severely affected by recurrent droughts, exacerbated by climate change, human-wildlife conflicts, and other disasters, impacting the livelihoods of communities in the arid region.
On August 10, 2019, ActionAid Kenya and Sarova Hotels, in partnership with the Isiolo County Government, will host the Shaba Challenge at the Shaba National Reserve in Isiolo to raise funds for marginalized communities affected by droughts.
Speaking at the launch of the Shaba Challenge, Isiolo Governor Mohammed Abdi Kuti emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "The experience will be supporting responsible conservation and it will be a worthy cause that will improve the lives of marginalized communities who continue to suffer the effects of recurrent drought caused by climate change."
Registration for the Shaba Challenge is open, with participants paying KES 10,000 and supporters paying KES 5,000. The challenge features three obstacle courses: the Ndovu course, the Simba Pride course, and the Swara Family course, designed to test physical fitness.
According to Phillip Namasaka, speaking on behalf of the Fitness Professionals Association of Kenya, the event aims to bring together individuals with varying fitness levels to celebrate physical resilience through the challenge activities.
