DCI Detectives Seize $10 Million Counterfeit Currency, Arrest Three Suspects

On July 18, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi arrested three suspects in connection with a $10 million counterfeit currency racket.

The suspects, aged 19, 20, and 27, were arrested in the Fedha area after a tip-off from the public.

According to the DCI, the suspects were found with a large quantity of counterfeit currency, including a bamba (a type of number plate) that is believed to have been used to manufacture the fake notes.

"The chemical believed to be used in manufacturing the counterfeit currency was found in the suspects' home," the DCI said in a statement.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on July 19, 2019.

This is not the first time that the DCI has cracked down on counterfeit currency operations in Nairobi. In a separate incident, detectives from the 'flying squad' unit arrested a suspect in the Wanguru-Kirinyaga area after a tip-off from the public.

The suspect, Anthony Munene Ndambiri, was arrested after a Toyota Probox and Fielder were found to be involved in the operation.

"The operation that started two weeks ago has been successful in recovering the vehicles," the DCI said in a statement.
