On July 19, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu sparked controversy by shortlisting his soon-to-be son-in-law, Herman Gitau Nyotu, for a top position in the county government.

Nyotu was named among five individuals shortlisted for the position of Chairperson, Kiambu County Public Service Board (CPSB).

The move raised eyebrows given the governor's ongoing battle with corruption allegations, including claims that his family members did business with the county.

Waititu's daughter, Dr Njeri Ndungu, is set to marry Nyotu's son, Dr Nyotu Gitau, on July 20, 2019, at PCEA Evergreen in Runda, with the reception scheduled for the Windsor Country Club.

The governor has been under investigation over alleged corruption in various county programmes, including the 'Kaa Sober' initiative, which was terminated after gobbling close to Sh700 million.
