Leyla Mohammed, the Eastleigh schoolgirl who gained attention after performing Wimbo wa Historia at Mashujaa Day, scored 308 marks in the 2018 KCPE.
She was among more than 1 million candidates who sat the exam, and her score placed her in the 301-400 marks band, which included 228,414 candidates.
Leyla had hoped to score above 350, but said she was content because she had met her own average target of 300 marks.
Speaking to The Star, she said: “I am grateful for the marks I have achieved and I am happy I have passed my average marks.”
She said she was now looking forward to joining Ngara Secondary School, which she described as her dream school.
Leyla also said her mother was pleased with the result and had prepared her for any outcome.
“My mother always told me that she is ready with any marks I will get,” Leyla said.
