Published on July 19, 2019, the inaugural National Sevens Circuit leg in Kakamega is set to kick off this weekend.
Western Bulls and Kabras Sugar, cross-town neighbours, will jointly host the showpiece, which has attracted over 32 clubs from Kenya Rugby Union-sanctioned leagues.
The Nairobian, a weekly newspaper owned by the Standard Group, has partnered with the event as a media partner, boosting the tournament's visibility.
Western Bulls Chairman Eliud Siganga expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, "Media plays a very important role in sport and that is why the availability of The Nairobian at the Kakamega Sevens will be important for the competition. We are grateful that The Nairobian have decided to join us as we host a National Sevens leg for the first time."
Organisers have assured adequate security, courtesy of the County Government, who will provide at least 32 law enforcers during the tournament.
"We have received massive support from the County Government and that shows that they are committed towards sports. Everyone is welcome to watch local rugby talent that will be on display," Siganga added.
The event replaces the Sepetuka Sevens, which was hosted by Homeboyz in Eldoret during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
