Tanzania’s music welfare authorities have stepped in to support gospel singer Rose Muhando after a viral video raised questions about her health and the allegations she made against people around her.
The Tanzania Music Foundation (TAMUFO) said Muhando should return to Tanzania and begin treatment. Secretary Stella Joel said the foundation would examine her claims and offer help where needed.
“As an agency mandated to look into the welfare of musicians in Tanzania, we have decided to seriously look into her claims. In that viral video, she accuses her former manager, Nathan, of very bad things. Her claims paint a bad picture of our industry,” Joel said.
Joel also said Muhando was unwell and that the foundation had already contracted doctors from Apollo Hospital in India to attend to her. She said the medical team was already in Tanzania.
The intervention followed a church video in which Pastor James Nganga of Neno Evangelism was seen praying over Muhando and casting out demons.
The report said Muhando was being used by Nganga to make money, while Tanzanian officials focused on her welfare and treatment.
In 2018, the episode drew wider attention because of the contrast between the church scene and the concerns raised about the singer’s condition.
