Parklands head coach Kul Suri has urged his side to carry their Wednesday form into their last Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match against 2016 champions Strathmore University Gladiators.
The call comes after Parklands edged pre-match favourites Wazalendo 3-2 at City Park, a result that eased their relegation worries and confirmed their top-flight status.
Before the win, Parklands were among the bottom six teams battling to avoid the drop. The victory lifted them from seventh place on 23 points and moved them above Nairobi Sikh, who still had a game in hand.
It also left Parklands three points behind Wazalendo, who stayed fifth on 29 points with a match in hand. Wazalendo had been chasing a climb of two places on the standings to reach third.
Suri said the result reflected the work done in training and praised his players for holding their nerve against a strong opponent.
“We had good preparations for the match and I am happy the players fought for the three points against Wazalendo who offered strong challenge. We now shift our attention to the final fixture of the season against Gladiators, where we will try and wrap the season on a winning note.”
Parklands will now look to finish the campaign strongly against Gladiators, with Suri asking for the same intensity that delivered the crucial win over Wazalendo.
