Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the Interior ministry would work with the Director of Public Prosecutions to improve the prosecution of cases.
He made the remarks in 2018 during an induction workshop for new staff at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where he said reforms in the justice system were taking shape and that Kenya was moving toward greater transparency and accountability.
Matiang’i also urged government agencies to support one another so public services could be delivered more effectively. He said the new officers were joining the DPP’s office as it sought to increase personnel and speed up investigations and prosecutions.
He added that criticism over the handling of corruption cases should not be directed at one institution alone, saying the wider anti-corruption effort required cooperation from several agencies.
The Cabinet Secretary said his ministry would do its part by ensuring suspects are arrested quickly and investigations are properly handled so that cases presented in court are strong.
Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji told the officers to uphold the rule of law in the course of their duties.
