Former ICC witness William Rono has accused Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny of trying to draw him back into the case against Deputy President William Ruto.
Rono said he was among three former witnesses who were approached to return to the ICC and support claims that Ruto interfered with witnesses. He made the allegation while speaking to journalists in Eldoret on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
“I am among three former witnesses approached by Kutuny and Harambee House operatives to go back to ICC and fix the DP over claims of witness tampering,” Rono said.
Kutuny rejected the accusation and said it was a reaction from people behind the maize and fertilizer scandals. He said the real issue was compensation for farmers and accountability over the National Cereals and Produce Board, or NCPB.
“Let them pay farmers and deal with the issues we raised. Such claims on ICC issues are just but tears from the cartels who are feeling the heat for frustrating farmers and stealing from the NCPB,” Kutuny said.
The dispute added to the long political fallout from the ICC cases involving Ruto, with Rono alleging pressure to revive witness-tampering claims and Kutuny insisting the accusation was politically driven.
