Police in Tigania East have arrested Charles Kirianki as the main suspect in the killing of his brother, Joseph Kalaawa, in a dispute linked to an alleged Sh50,000 withdrawal from a sacco account.
Area police boss Samuel Kosgey said investigators are examining transaction records before drawing conclusions on the motive and the suspect’s role in the death.
“I can't confirm that Kirianka committed the offence because we are relying on the bank transactions,” Kosgey said.
According to the police account, the arrest followed the murder of Kalaawa, with officers now piecing together the financial trail said to have triggered the attack.
At St Peter's Orthodox Church Irindiro, where Kalaawa worshipped, Pastor Stephen Erimba described the killing as tragic and called for swift justice.
Erimba said Kalaawa may have been attacked while heading home from a coffee collection centre.
He also said villagers retaliated after the arrest by burning the suspect’s house, slaughtering his cattle and holding a feast.
“We went there, reviewed the CCTV footage and saw how he took the money from the counter. His home is now in ruins and all cows were eaten on November 15,” Erimba said.
