Nairobi county government has ordered the demolition of a seven-storey building along Kayole Spine Road after a photo of the structure, said to be at Bee Centre, Umoja, spread widely on social media with what appeared to be two extra floors added to it.
The image drew attention because the building was described as visibly faulty, prompting public concern over its safety and condition. The online version of the photo was later linked to the same structure that City Hall moved against.
In a demolition notice dated November 9, the owner was directed to bring down the building and to submit a structural integrity report within seven days. The notice also required an immediate stop to further construction.
Part of the notice stated: “You are hereby required to stop further construction immediately and submit architectural and structure plant,” a demand that has since elapsed.
