Uganda police are investigating the disappearance of South Sudanese businessman Lual Malong Jnr after his family reported him missing in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the complaint was filed at a local police station and that officers were trying to establish what happened after the reported pickup. He said Malong was not in police custody.
“We are investigating the circumstances under which he was picked up. His brother reported the matter to police. I can confirm he is not in our custody,”
According to the original report, Malong was last seen on November 14, 2018, when he was allegedly taken from his hotel room by people in military uniform. The men were said to have arrived in two vehicles.
A relative told a Juba-based radio station that Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldiers took him, but UPDF spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire denied the claim.
“I have no information about that individual being held by the UPDF,” Richard said.
Malong was known for his lavish lifestyle, which he often displayed in the media.
