Siaya county MCAs have imposed a Sh200,000 fine on Finance executive Joseph Warega after accusing him of repeatedly failing to appear before the assembly.
The Finance Committee also wants Warega impeached once he settles the penalty, citing standing order number 73. On Wednesday, vice chair Samuel Siguru presented a report on Warega’s conduct to the House.
The report says Warega has not honoured assembly summonses since he assumed the docket. MCAs want him to answer audit queries linked to allegations of mismanagement.
During debate on the reports from the Powers and Privileges Committee and the Finance Committee, members pushed for tougher action. They also recommended that police be involved to address what they described as blatant disrespect for the House.
Central Alego MCA Leonard Oriaro said the fine was too lenient. Sigomere MCA Eric Odawa said Warega had shown disrespect to the assembly.
“We are not going to spare him. He is not fit to hold the position. We will impeach him,” he said.
Nominated MCA Bernard Adalah blamed Warega for delays in project implementation and said the county’s residents would only benefit from devolution if he left office.
“For Siaya residents to enjoy the fruits of devolution, Warega must go,” Adalah said.
