inDriver, a pioneering online ride-hailing service, is expanding its operations to Harare, Zimbabwe, with plans to launch in the capital city by the end of July 2019.
Headquartered in New York, inDriver has gained a significant following worldwide, with over 26 million users across more than 200 cities globally. The service is already operational in several African countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
inDriver's innovative approach to ride-hailing involves allowing passengers to propose fares on the app, which drivers can then accept, reject, or counter with their own offer. This model provides drivers with the flexibility to choose their own rates and schedules, while also ensuring a safe and transparent experience for passengers.
One of the key features of inDriver's app is its safety button, which allows both drivers and passengers to share their GPS location and other details of their ride in real-time with trusted contacts. Additionally, drivers are not charged any commission for the first six months, after which they pay a modest 10% commission.
Eligible drivers, including those with taxis and private cars, can apply for registration by submitting their identification documents, driver's license, and a photo of their vehicle. The car must be in good condition and no older than a 2000 model.
According to inDriver's marketing director, Yegor Fedorov, the service aims to empower passengers and drivers to determine fair and favorable prices for each route. This approach is expected to benefit both parties, with drivers able to earn higher incomes while enjoying greater transparency and flexibility.
