A suspected robber was lynched in Naivasha after residents confronted a group believed to have been preparing to strike Site estate. Police also arrested another suspect as three others fled the scene.
Witness James Kimani said at least five men, armed with machetes and rungus, raided the home of a prominent Naivasha businessman. He said residents, angered by repeated robberies in the area, fought back with whatever weapons they had.
“Police saved the suspect they arrested from being lynched. This should serve as a warning to those who escaped that we will not rest until we find them,” Kimani said.
He added that insecurity had pushed residents to organise night patrols. According to him, some victims of robbery later identified the man who was killed as one of the attackers.
Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru said the suspect in custody was assisting investigators and would be taken to court after the probe is completed.
In a separate incident, passengers were injured when a Canter and a matatu collided along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway near Ihindu trading centre. The matatu hit the rear of the Canter.
Witness Peter Kirika said fog and poor visibility contributed to the crash. “The matatu driver was going uphill and did not notice the Canter that was ahead,” he said.
Waweru said four of the injured were in serious condition and were taken to different hospitals in Naivasha.
